Frequently Asked Questions

How to use an eSim

Do the plans include voice calls and SMS?

All our plans are unlimited data plans, hence none of them come with Traditional Voice Call’s or SMS services, BUT you can always use VoiP services like Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, etc to make calls or send messages and always be connected.

Can I run two eSims on the same phone at the same time?

That really depends on the device you have. While many smartphones let you store several eSim profiles, most of them only let one be active at a given moment. But if you have a Physical SIM, then you can run one Physical SIM and one eSim at the same time on all eSim compatible phones.

And, some phones do support the usage of two eSim’s at the same time, a few of them are as follows:

Apple

  • iPhone 13 and newer – All models (iPhone 13, 14, 15 series) support Dual SIM with two eSims.
  • iPhone 14 and newer – In addition to a physical SIM, you can have two active eSims.

Samsung

  • Galaxy S series – Galaxy S22, S23, S24, S25 all support dual active eSims.
  • Galaxy Z Fold & Flip series – Models such as Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 support dual active eSims.
  • Galaxy A series – The Galaxy A54 5G and A55 5G include this capability.

Google Pixel

  • Pixel 7 and newer – Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, 9, 9 Pro all support dual active eSims.
  • Pixel Fold – The Google Pixel Fold also supports dual active eSims.
  • Note: Some U.S. variants are eSim-only, while international versions often have a hybrid (eSim + physical SIM) setup.
  • Motorola – The Motorola Edge 40 5G Dual-SIM offers dual SIM support with eSim capability.
  • Other manufacturers – Keep an eye on newer flagships from Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, etc.; many now include dual active eSim support.

Can I have several phones scan the same QR code?

Unfortunately, no. As soon as the QR code is scanned by a phone, the eSim gets linked to that device. The code works only once, so trying to scan it again on another device won’t succeed. If you do need data on another phone or device, just get another eSim — we do offer good discounts!

Do I need to turn on Data Roaming when I’m using Velome’s eSim?

Yup! Just head to Settings → Cellular → Data Roaming and switch it on before you start using the eSim. And when you’re done travelling, don’t forget to flip it back off.

Will my regular (physical) SIM keep working after I install an eSim?

Absolutely! Adding an eSim doesn’t interfere with your physical SIM at all — you can use both at the same time without any issues.

When does my Velome eSim data plan actually start?

For most eSims, billing kicks in the moment you activate the plan (only when you first connect to the local network after you arrive). You can do the activation right after you land as well, but you’ll need an internet connection or Wi-Fi to finish the setup.

If you’re activating it after you arrive at your destination, just connect to the Airport Wi-Fi and then activate — it should start working within a minute.

What if I lose my phone? Can I move my eSim to a new device?

No. The best way to find out is to reach out to our support team and they’ll guide you through what can be done. But if all else fails, we’ll issue you a new eSim (on a case-by-case basis). We want all our users to be able to explore without worrying about running out of data — we got you!

What’s the easiest way to view my eSim data balance and related details?

No need! All our plans are unlimited, so you’ll never run out of data :)

Can I renew or add more data to my eSim?

Yes, absolutely! Most of our eSim’s come with the ability to extend their duration. There are 2 ways to go about it:

  • You can head into your Velome account (via My eSim’s) and top up the number of days you need.
  • Or get another eSim via My eSim’s as well — just wait until your current one expires and then buy a new one.

Pro Tip: You can even buy a new eSim for another destination without needing to scan another QR code. Our support team can assist you with this.

Do I need to delete my Velome eSim once I’m done with it?

Up to you — there’s really no issue if you keep it there or not. But if you’d like to clear it out, go to your phone settings → select ‘Connections’ (may vary by phone) or wherever your SIM Manager is → select the eSim → Remove or Delete.

Compatibility of Devices

Which devices work with eSim?

Just take a quick look at our compatibility list — it shows whether your smartphone (or other gadget) supports eSim.

Can I put an eSim in my laptop?

Sure thing! Just check out the List of Laptops with eSim to see which notebook models already have eSim support.

Why can’t I install an eSim on a phone that is compatible?

Most of the time it’s because the phone is still carrier locked. To get an eSim working you need two things:

  • A device that actually supports eSim.
  • An unlocked device (an unlocked device is able to accept any carrier’s eSim).

If you need any more assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team.

Which phone models work with eSim?

The best way to check would be to type *#06# on your keypad — if an EID shows up, then your phone is eSim compatible. If it doesn’t show up, then it’s not.

You can also check our handy list of eSim compatible devices by going to the Check Device Compatibility Page — we regularly update our list.

Getting an eSim

Will my eSim expire if I don’t activate it right after buying it?

Velome eSim’s have to be activated within 30 days, or the QR code will lapse. If you haven’t scanned or activated your eSim within 30 days, just reach out to our support team and we’ll see what we can do.

A good rule of thumb is to buy your eSim a few days before you travel and activate it once you land. Also, always include the days that you’ll be flying out and returning while purchasing your eSim to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

How soon will I get my eSim after I pay?

Usually we’ll send it within 2 hours. Keep an eye on your inbox — we’ll send it via email. Sometimes if it’s not in your inbox, peek in the spam/junk folder. Still nothing after about 2 hours? Just give our support team a shout and we’ll sort it out for you.

If you’re buying it from India, remember to complete your eKYC as soon as you get our email (it takes less than 10 seconds). We’ll send the eKYC email immediately after payment, and once that’s done, we’ll send out your eSim.

Can I get an eSim that works in more than one country?

Absolutely! We sell regional eSims that cover multiple countries and destinations. Just head over to the Regional eSim section on our website for the full list of countries each regional plan covers.

Can I use WhatsApp or Instagram with my Velome eSim?

Absolutely! WhatsApp, Instagram, and all other internet apps run perfectly on our eSim’s, so you can stay connected while you’re on the road. We built Velome that way :)

Setup & Activation

When’s the best time to install my eSim?

We suggest scanning the QR code right before you actually need it — say, a little before your flight takes off or as soon as you land at your destination. Doing it at that moment helps keep the activation smooth and hassle-free.

How do I set up Velome eSim on my device?

Once you’ve bought the eSim, we’ll send you a QR code via email. Then pick whichever setup method feels easiest for you:

Quick Troubleshooting

What’s the quickest way to get my eSim working again?

Check & Try these four simple steps, in order:

  • Select the eSim as your active mobile-data source.
  • Enable Data Roaming in your phone’s settings.
  • Manually choose the network that’s listed in the product description.
  • Restart your phone – a quick reboot often clears lingering glitches.

I’m seeing the “This code is no longer valid” error. What should I do?

Open the email that we sent you with the QR code and try scanning again (sometimes the whole QR code is not captured, so it misses the proper code for activation). If that doesn’t work, try installing it manually. If that fails as well, then worry not — simply reach out to our support team and we’ll send you a brand new eSim instantaneously if we can’t fix it either.

I lost my eSim QR code. How can I retrieve it?

Try locating the email that we sent with the QR code. If you can’t access your email, then head to our website and log in to your Velome account, then go to My eSim’s — it should be there.

If you’re unable to do the above, let us know and we’ll send you a new eSim or your current eSim (whichever is best).

My plan says “unlimited data,” yet I’m hitting speed limits. Why?

Some carriers apply a Fair-Usage Policy (FUP) when a user consumes a large amount of data very quickly (e.g., binge-watching or heavy live-streaming). The FUP temporarily reduces the connection speed for a few hours.

Even with the reduction you can still stream HD (720p to 1080p) without major interruptions, and the normal speed returns in a few hours. The policy is set by the local carrier, not by Velome.

We recommend exploring the destination you’re in — stream shows when you get back home.

Why does my network feel slower than it should?

We partner with top local carriers to deliver 5G/4G/LTE speeds in most countries. However, actual speed depends on:

  • Signal strength (weak signal = slower speeds)
  • Carrier coverage (some areas have only 4G or LTE)
  • Indoor obstacles (walls, metal, etc.)
  • Area you’re in (sometimes in far-flung areas like deserts, mountains, underground, etc., where local carriers might not have good coverage, you’ll get slower speeds, but will still be connected)

You can sometimes improve performance by manually switching to a stronger carrier or moving to a location with better reception.

How do I set the correct APN so my eSim stays connected?

An incorrect APN can stop the eSim from working. In the email that we send you, we usually include the APN details as well. Once you scan the QR code, the correct APN should automatically get configured.

But if required, reset the APN on your device to the values provided in your email.

Detailed instructions are also available in our help articles if needed, or feel free to reach out to our support team.

Why can’t I use my iPhone as a hotspot with the eSim?

All of our eSims allow unlimited hotspot sharing, but the feature won’t work if Data Roaming is turned off.

Enable Data Roaming in Settings → Cellular → Data Roaming, then try switching the hotspot on again.

Where can I find my phone’s EID and IMEI?

Dial *#06# on your device. The screen will display both the IMEI (device identifier) and the EID (eSim identifier).
